After being released from prison, mob boss Dwight “The General” Manfredi is exiled to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he and a group of unlikely characters build a new criminal empire. Sylvester Stallone’s first starring role in a television series.

The opening credits sequence features several photographic and pictorial views, as well as Oklahoma landmarks superimposed on the New York City landscape: A statue of Sioux Chief “Touch the Clouds” wearing a war bonnet and a bone choker (plaster) necklace superimposed on top of the Brooklyn Bridge. The Golden Drill Monument superimposed on the Statue of Liberty.

The Western Gateway Arch of Route 66 superimposed on one of Manhattan’s major “avenues.” In New York City, the borough of Manhattan features several numbered “avenues” that intersect with lower-numbered streets. I’ve always liked Stallone, yes he’s addicted to sequels but he’s made some really cool movies, adding classics along the way.
It’s fun to watch, worth watching
“Tulsa King” might be his best work from an acting standpoint alone, he’s just playing the role of a mob boss. The show itself has an interesting story, is well written, makes the most of the humor of a New York gangster in Tulsa, Oklahoma without being silly, throw in a good dose of violence, good writing and dialogue and a great supporting cast of actors and characters and you’ve got a winner.
