I was hooked on the romance and definitely devoured this series

A sex-averse podcaster and a recently single rabbi fall in love; find out if their relationship will survive their completely different lives and interfering families. The original title was “Shiksa”, which is also the last word spoken in the first episode.
I agree – the rabbi is cool
There was a lot of excellent script, pace and play; it was easy to fall in love. 🙂 However, I felt an unpleasant discomfort from the depiction of Jewish culture.
Or the huge wealth somehow accumulated by his immigrant parents in the first generation
Some of the inaccuracies were annoying, for example, the Hanukkah menorahs that kept popping up everywhere — at your parents’ doorsteps — right? Some, however, were more off-putting, for example, the constant use of the term “chic”, which is actually not a good thing to say.
Gentiles are often recognized by their fair hair in the series
If I was around people who seriously used that term to describe someone, I wouldn’t want to hang out with them again. Adding insult to injury, when this word is used for the first time, it is projected contemptuously onto a stranger simply based on their appearance.
I would like to see an improvement in the second season!
As a Jewish blonde, I’m familiar with this “but you don’t look Jewish” type of ignorance, but it doesn’t come from within the Jewish community. At best, these contradictory elements seemed underexplored; at worst, they seemed sycophantic and addicted to outdated racial stereotypes.
