Line of Events
Catherine Ravenscroft, a television documentary journalist built on exposing wrongdoing in long-respected institutions, follows. show Right from the start the two young men on the train in the first scene are riled up and the average acting goes on from there. Even Kevin Kline, normally infallible in my eyes, seems to be phoning it in. It’s like the actors don’t know how to portray their characters. The story is unnatural. A strangely inconsistent audio quality. I assume the narration is lifted straight from the book, but that doesn’t always make sense in the context of the TV show. For example, sometimes the narrative points to Cate Blanchett’s character having her own experience, which is weird. Kodi Smit-McPhee moves around like a wet rag. Sacha Baron Cohen seems out of place and strangely hysterical at times. It’s all a bit silly. One star for the cute cat.
